Narrowing of DC Achievement Gap Stalls

While considerable progress has been made in narrowing the black-white gap in reading and achievement math achievement since 2007, recent results show that the gap actually increased slightly between 2009 and 2010. The Washington Post article "Progress slows in closing achievement gaps in D.C. schools" reports that the gap in secondary math proficiency increased by slightly less than 2 percentage points between 2009 and 2010 with secondary reading scores show a similar pattern. We will have to wait until 2011 to see whether or not this is just a one year "blip" in the narrowing trend.
